Summer Vocabulary Matching Game
Element to Teach: Vocabulary words
Level: Intermediate
Concept: The students will be able acknowledge beach related terms. When they are going on a vacation to the beach over summer, they can confidently use the words.
How to Play (Instruction):
1. Divide class in to two groups.
2. Each group will have a picture of beach with people and things with numbers on the picture.
3. The vocabulary words will be on the board.
4. Teacher will read out clues to students, and whoever raises their hands first, and gets the vocabulary word right, that group gets to earn a point.
5. The group with most points wins.
6. Near the end of the game, the teacher will read each vocabulary words with correct (or similar) pronunciations, and students will repeat after each the teacher.
7. Before the game ends, the teacher will hand out a worksheet containing questions. I.e.) what would you take to the beach? What would you by or rent at the beach?
How this is Useful
l The teacher with get student’s attention by using tools, such as cards.
l Students get to learn new words that are going to be used in their lives.
l They can practice to make sentence with them, and to practice with correct pronunciation.
l They get to have fun, because this can be a real life situation game.
