Grammar lesson (Present Perfect & Present Perfect Progressive)

Class: Advanced at the Alpine Family Literacy Program
Size: 15
Ethno linguistic composition: Mostly Hispanic and Asians
Objective: Students will be able to learn present perfect using Time Expressions such as EVER, NEVER, Already, and YET. Students will be able to understand why they use the present perfect progressive with two reasons: to emphasize the duration of n action that began in the past and continues to now, and to express an action that began in the past and is still in progress (it’s unfinished).They also will be able to use them in sentences or situations. The students also will be able to recognize these tenses work and what they mean, and they can speak practicing English using these tenses properly.
Materials Needed: quizzes
Warm up and Review –Review about Present perfect tense with the students. (10min.)
Introduction – Do students know about the present perfect using Time Expressions (EVER, NEVER, ALREADY, and YET)? (5 min.)
Presentation –Explain the present perfect using TIME EXPRESSIONS. Explain the present perfect progressive (30 min.)
Practice
-Activity: (10 min.) Pair up activity with examples.
Ask questions about why words are and where they are while the students are working on the words. Have the students use the words in a situation or in sentences.
Evaluation – (5 min.) Give the students a quiz. Talk to together
